After the first 3 calls and out of 108 applications received the EBRD has approved 29 projects for development and implementation of green technologies and improvement of resource efficiency in Serbia. The total value of the awarded vouchers is 435 000 EUR. Please find more details on the approved projects in the interactive map and table below.

Other examples of eligible R&D projects

Early fault detection in machinery for increased equipment efficiency

A company in Gornji Milanovac has 90 employees. It manufactures packaging materials made of paper and wants to implement an early fault detection system in its rotating machinery (compressors, pumps, gearboxes and electric motors).

The company asks the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at the University of Kragujevac to perform the necessary measurements (such as vibration, temperature and speed), prepare a feasibility study and then advise on where and what kind of additional sensors it should install and which algorithms it should use for early fault detection.

If the company implements the proposed solution successfully, it would increase equipment efficiency, decrease electricity consumption, and reduce number of failures and waste, therefore increasing equipment availability and production capacity.

The eligible R&D services cost for this project is €10.000 (excluding VAT). The Green Innovation Voucher will be worth €9.000 (90 per cent of the costs without VAT) and the company is expected to provide co-financing of €1.000 (10 per cent of the costs without VAT).

Testing a new sorbent to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

A small business in Bor has 40 employees. It has developed a new sorbent based on limestone which can be injected into coal, oil, gas and biomass-fired boilers and thus reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

To further develop and improve the sorbent, the business contacts the Laboratory for Thermal Engineering and Energy at the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences to do additional tests and measurements in one of the thermal or biomass power plants in order to validate if the new sorbent is better than those that have already been used and are available on the Serbian market.

The eligible R&D services cost for this project is €15.000 (excluding VAT). The Green Innovation Voucher will be worth €13.500 (90 per cent of the costs without VAT) and the business is expected to provide co-financing of €1.500 (10 per cent of the costs without VAT).

Modelling of a high-voltage transformer for lower losses

A medium-sized business in Belgrade has 180 employees and manufactures high-voltage 110kV transformers.

In order to increase its efficiency and lower manufacturing costs, it contacts the Nikola Tesla Institute of Electrical Engineering at the University of Belgrade to develop a detailed model of the power transformer and propose its optimal parameters. Such a transformer would reduce losses that occur during the voltage transformation while the business would reduce consumption of materials used in the manufacturing process.

The eligible R&D services cost for this project is €25.000 (excluding VAT). The Green Innovation Voucher will be worth €20.000 (which is the maximum available value) and the business is expected to provide co-financing of €5.000 (covering the remaining costs).
